Interviews

My experience in interviews for various IT positions_

2# Network Engineer Position

• Introduce yourself

• What do you know about OSI and what are the benefits of it?

• If I mention Layer 2, what concepts and devices operating in this layer come to mind?

• If I mention Layer 3, what concepts and devices operating in this layer come to mind?

• Data has been transferred from point A to point B, explain how you imagine the source MAC and destination MAC, and the source IP and destination IP

• Explain NAT and mention its types

• To get my devices online, I set up a complete configuration for a dynamic NAT pool with 4 addresses. How many devices from the LAN can access the internet in this case?

• Explain DNS

• Explain DHCP, why do we use it, and what configurations might it have?

• If we have devices connected to a switch, and the switch is connected to a router with a DHCP server also connected to the router. The router has IP addresses and interfaces are working but without any other configuration. If we enable DHCP on the devices, will they get an IP from the server? Why?

• Explain VLAN and do VLANs communicate with each other in the switch? Why?

• What is ROAS?

• How do we configure interVLAN Routing? Explain the configuration from the switch and the router side

• I have a switch and I'm concerned someone nosy might connect his device to it. What security practices can I implement?

• What is port security and if I implemented it, what would be the default action of the switch if an employee connects a device?

• Talk about ACL and explain its benefits and mention its types

• I activated an ACL in the global config and specified the type of traffic it should block, but I noticed that traffic passes without being blocked. What could be the problem?

• What do you know about firewalls?

• There are devices connected to a Layer 3 switch with SVIs, but there's no routing between them. What could be the reason?

• Mention the types of routing and when to use each type

• What do you know about AD and what is its benefit?

• I have two paths for the same subnet in the routing table, one static and the other EIGRP. Which path will the traffic take and how can I force the traffic to use EIGRP?

• Where is the proper place for a firewall?

• What do you know about line con and vty, and when do we use them?

• Is using Telnet secure? What's the alternative if it's not?

• What is Hierarchical Network Design? What is its benefit, and can you mention the layers for each type and in your opinion, when should each design be used?

• What is meant by Node?

• Do you have the capability to continue studying and learning, or you feel you have learned enough?
